This agreement marks an important step in the development of an innovative and environmentally friendly fuel source for aviation, aligning with global trends in reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable development. Under the agreement, the IFC will conduct a technical assessment of the project and provide recommendations to enhance its investment appeal and secure financing from international financial institutions.

Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is an environmentally friendly aviation fuel produced from non-petroleum raw materials, which reduces carbon emissions from air transport. In this project, bioethanol is considered the primary feedstock for SAF production through the “alcohol-to-jet” process.

KazFoodProducts holding includes LLP BioOperations – the only enterprise in Kazakhstan engaged in bioethanol production through deep processing of wheat grain. The holding has also begun construction of a new plant, Qostanay Grain Industry, with a planned annual capacity of 430 000 tons of deep wheat processing. This plant will produce bioethanol, which will serve as the raw material for SAF production.

The project holds significant strategic importance for Kazakhstan, supporting the introduction of new technologies and contributing to the achievement of low-carbon development goals for international aviation.
